Whoa!!!! The accuracy of your replica is sooo close that it makes my jaw drop! You did an absolutely beautiful job with it... so beside the purple senate gown, what're upcoming projects do you think? I can't wait to see as your gowns are simply gorgeous!

The dress is amazing. I think the thing I loved most about it in the movie was how the material flowed so beautifly and this dress has the amazing feature!

, it's stunning! Whoever commissioned it is one lucky girl!
I know you worked long and hard on it, and suffered multi-colored hands in the dying process too!, and it shows that you put a lot of care into it. Stellar job as always sweetie!

RE: Rainbow dress
WOW! thats sooo pretty! ferd, you are a genius.
gosh, im gone a month and the thread grows two more pages. whilst on holiday (in spain), i gave this dress some serious thought. how do you get the skirt to stick out just that little bit at the bottom. would the underdress need to be made of a heavier fabric than lycra, and the skirt to be a-line?
still havent started it yet, the motivations there but the financial back up isnt.

RE: Rainbow dress
OMG!! I'm a beginner seamstress, and my mom won't help me unless she gets a pattern. I have never made anything before, except doll clothes for my sister. I have no idea what to do! But this thread has been helpful.
BTW Ferd, you did a great job. I was just on your site then I came here.

RE: Rainbow dress
Have to say this is not a "beginner's dress". It takes a lot of fabric--and chiffon is one of the hardest fabrics to sew. Of course if someone told me that in the beginning-I would have ignored them. If you put your mind to it-you can do just about anything. Here are my tips on how you can create your own. First of all a dressform is almost a requirement. The fit is essential due to the plunging back and cut along the bustline- not to mention all that draping. If you don't have one-you'll have to be patient while your mom pins to you. I would llook for a pattern that is like an evening dress with a halter neck and a low back-without lining for more ease..
I think I would make this out of muslin to get the fit right of the underdress before you cut your actual "good" fabric (I used satin) You can experiment with the draping by pinning it up and tacking it here and there until you get the right result. The dyieing is also essential. I used several colors and worked from various pictures to get it right. There are a hundred other things--but first, get started with the underdress. See how you take to sewing after that. If you are ready to do over layers and drapes--come back and we'll all help you out some more. Good luck and have fun!
Ferd
P.S. Thanks ya'll for your nice compliments
Please forgive my bad spelling-I'm on a dying monitor

RE: Rainbow dress
Thanks Ferd. I'll have to show that to my mum. She said the only thing that she's worried about right now is the cost of fabrics. I'm about a size 10, and I'm 5'3, so how many yards of fabric would that take?
