well...we know that Houston is going nowhere anytime soon.

I think in the end...the relationship Andy had with George was much like that of Dave Winfield's with George.

I am quite disappointed in Andy. I do not think he had any intention of staying with the Yankees.

Now the Yanks are looking to get the 39 Yr Old Kevin Brown. I wonder how much he has left and if he can stay healthy. I believe he was on the DL for some time this past season.

he could have tried to roll out the carpet to keep Andy.

Wasn't Pettite's contract with the Astros lower $$$ than what the Yanks were offering? I don't think that it would have mattered if George gave Pettite a blank check, he just wanted to go back to his home state and finish out his career. I mean, the guy has 4 rings under his belt and is a lock for Cooperstown, it's not like he's throwing in the towel on his career or anything.

It takes a lot for a player these days to turn down money (and the Yankees) like that. Pettite is definately part of a dying breed.

Well, I don't know about a lock but you're absolutely right in everything else you said. Professional sports definitely needs more Andy Pettittes. I wish him all the success in the world and shall root for him in Houston.

You guys are bigger people than me. I'm still in the 'damn him!' glenn close a-woman-scorned phase. (Of course, I just found out two hours ago).

It hurts. Make it stop, George. sad

It definately hurts and I will not be rooting for him in Houston. I do not blame George at all. Pettitte wanted to be in Houston, case closed.

He is no way in hell a lock for the Hall of Fame. Let him win 250 games first and lower his career ERA to 3.50

you know...I was reading that one of the reason's Pettitte left was that he was not treated like he was wanted. George did not take him to dinner...his teammates did not stay in contact with him, with the exception of Jeter.

Hmmm....really? I mean, from my POV (and what do I know? Am in any of the Yankees meetings? No, but anyways....), it seemed like George was just a little to preoccuppied with sheffield and stuff, when really, getting Pettitte back should've been THE top priority.

I'm sooo disapointed though. As stupid as it sounds, I have like hurt feelings or something. Why didn't he stay?? Even if his teammates didn't keep in touch, the fans definitely wanted him back! What's wrong with NY, huh? *sniff*

Gaah, now I'm suddenly understanding what Oakland felt when we took Giambi, or Baltimore when we got Mussina. *sigh* sad

Another reason we want to keep Derek and not try to get Pay-Rod.

Free-agent closer Keith Foulke reached agreement with the Boston Red Sox on Saturday, choosing to join the escalating arms race in the AL East rather than re-sign with Oakland.

How would everyone feel if The Rocket joins Pettitte in Houtson?

It's not so bad for you Yankee Fans. After all, you did get Vazquez and are going to get Kevin Brown. I think that's better than Roger and Pettite.

Um, oh goody, Brown.....he's 39 and past his prime. A Steinbrenner specialty.

I'd take a healthy, 30 year old Pettitte over him any day.

*wanders off cursing steinbrenner under her breath*

I wish people would stop blaming Steinbrenner for Pettitte siging with the Astros. I fully believe that Pettitte had no intention of re-signing with the Yanks. His former teammates likely had an idea about this months.

On the other hand if you think Brown is old and over the hill, then curse Steinbrenner. How many other SP are out there? Maddux? heh. Schilling is no youngster either. Who would the Yanks have to let go for another young ace. I think they gave up more than enough for Vasquez. I think Nick Johnson has tons of potential.

Are the Yankee fans blaming George because the Red Sux are buying more than he is? lol

Actually, Sith, if you want to get to the root of my gripe with steinbrenner (and no, I don't *completely* blame him for the Pettitte debacle, only partly. Andy's carrying some of that weight as well), it's that whole Brandon Klaussen trade for Aaron Boone. We wouldn't have to fetch all the old men if we kept that youngster in our ranks. I mean, I love Aaron for hitting that homerun against the Bosox, but I hate him for hitting into a dp with the bases loaded in the World Series. And if that's too much of a 'what have you done for me lately?' attitude, then I don't apologize. You can't just pluck any player off the free agency market and call him a Yankee. Well, you can *call* him that, but it doesn't mean they are one. In my fussy fan opinion, you have to earn your pinstripes and my loyalty. Jeter has it. Mariano has it. Pettitte *had* it. and I'm just sick of watching George let good Yankees with character get away, and then signing headcases like Mondesi and Sheffield.

I dunno...I'm just skeptical of some of our moves in recent months. And I'm blabbering....it's just.....dammit, Andy, why'd you have to go? sad
