Obi-wan was getting to old to fight anymore so I guess he thought by becoming one with the force he could help luke in more ways than he could alive.

No need for the Force insight once he sensed Kenobi was there. Ben on the DS, ship in the docking bay, Princess onboard. Go face Kenobi and let them get away. All evidenced by Taking and vader discussing the homing beacon after they leave.

He had to know that Kenobi was old by this time and wanted to deliver a redeemer to help wipe out the Empire.

I do think Vader had no ideal what so ever that Kenobi would become one with the force. Or eles he wouldn't have stepped on his robe.
