Did anyone of you had any success in re-creating the neclace? Or any other ideas?

I have a copy of my dress that I'd like to scan when I can get a scanner available.

For the necklace what I did was cut 5 pieces from a plastic gummy bear container because they are easily bendable but strong. I taped them together at the back and then to the dress part. Then I covered the plastic really smoothly with silver wrapping paper. It sounds cheesy but you really can't tell until you come really close that it's not metal. I did the same thing for the armbands but with gold paper. I was at the TO premiere and the other costumed fans who saw it thought it was a great idea.

BTW that suggestion came to me from someone who does anime costumes so if you know any they've got great ideas!

In making the neclace I had great success with Friendly Plastic. It is these 1 1/2" wide plastic strips you can cut with scissors. Then you heat it in boiling water and mold it to any shape. It hardens when it cools. I got it in Pearl White, which looks very much like mother of pearl, glued it to some felt backing, and used silver puffy paint as the metal trim. You used to be able to get it at craft stores, but I had to order it online. Hope this helps!

Hi, I'm new. I'm Kate for short (in general...) and I was thinking about making this dress. My wonderful mother suggested making it for my next formal, and wow am I excited.

I've been hanging around here for quite some time and only just got around to registering. Eek. Anyway, I'm sort of a beginning seamstress. (I almost said sewer...) and I can use all the help I can get. ANYTHING would be appreciated.

Interesting note--my mother does stained glass and said she could do the jewelry for me! Yay, let's hear it for awesome parents!

Edit: That glass will be heavy, now that I think about it! O.o

eep! I have been away from the thread for so long because of moving and things. (btw, side note: sorry for multiple postings on the 6th page...I'm not sure how to edit it though and get rid of it - my computer was acting funky that day so my apologies!)

Anyway - I am really excited because I've finally started on this dress! It'll probably take me a long time to do but it's okay (^_^) How is it coming along with the rest of you? Do you have pictures scanned in yet? (in case you can't tell I love looking at pictures!)

Hey everybody! I've started!!!! kind of....

I picked up a $5 Padme doll from KB Toys (nationwide clearance!!!!) and stripped :-O her! Then I got some chiffon samplings from the fabric store and have started putting together the outer layer of the dress--figuring out how it drapes and all. So to those of you who have figured it out, I'd love it if you've got your own pictures (I've seen all the officials, I promise!!) or sketches, or really good explanations or how you put it together.

So far, so good though! Countdown to Prom: 4.5 months!(approximately)

later all!,

I think they meant they were making their own.

I have two pages of sketches I did one night in front of Disney's Motocrossed. Two whole pages of sketches and it took me that long...but I figured out *sort* of how I'd do this dress, if you want I can scan and upload them to my site. Just let me know!

Warn you though, they're just ideas. I can do more if anyone wants to see my take on it.

Jedi Gurl...yes, I should have specified. It's actually the flame handmaiden doll. Which is another cool costume to make...

rvqavalon, YES! I'd be so grateful if you could scan those in! I'm really just looking at various "interpretations" of the dress, myself. Everyone has their own idea of how it was put together, and I'm in the process of figuring out my theory.

Wow...costuming should be a SCIENCE, not an art. happy

Costuming is BOTH science and art IMO.

Skywalker325,I scanned both my sketches. The anatomy isn't great, but I just doodled these for fun. I plan on doing more, I'll upload those when I get them done as well.

Hope that works.

EDIT: It won't let me hotlink, I'm sorry. I guess you'll have to copy-paste.

Eeeeekkk!!! I've committed myself to making the dress-- I just went and bought 10 yards of poly chiffon. grin I really like it-- it's very very soft and drapey, not stiffer like some of the other chiffons they had. And it was only $4/yard!

I'm going to make a start on it this weekend-- big family reunion thingie, so I'll get to see my mom and have her help me with preliminary draping and such. happy

rvqavalon,

those sketches are awesome! I can see that your view and mine, as far as how the dress is put together, are very similar, right down to the underdress! The trouble I'm having is in trying to visualize what the outer layer of chiffon will look like cut, but now yet sewn. In other words, looking at the front of the dress, where it's knotted up an all: what does that piece of fabric look like if layed out on a table??? Can anyone help with this?

Oh my... that is *exactly* the same problem I'm having. I mentioned on the picnic dress thread that I'm an information-collector. I HAVE to know everything that goes into a project before I'm willing to start or I'm an incredibly nervous wreck. I've been thinking about making a 'beta version' for a barbie doll or something, just so that I'm not dealing with huge amounts of fabric like I would be if I did a full-size mockup. I'll let everyone know if I come up with anything! And if ANYONE has any IDEAS, TELL USSSS! *beg grovel plead*
