This is my favorite of the SW gowns, and I hope someday I can even attempt to make it.

Jaina (Caitlin): What pattern did you use for this dress? I've gone through the pages and cannot find it anywhere. It could just be me being blind, but I would really appreciate a heads up!

Ferd-- Yes, I'm planning to use the roll-on adhesive. It will at least work better than the double-stick tape! And that prom dress is just a lovely adaptation. happy

chibiangi-- You're not crazy; I never stated the pattern I used. It's an out-of-print Butterick, but it's nothing very special-- just a princess-seamed sundress. I altered it substantially by making a muslin first and then adding or subtracting fabric as necessary. happy I absolutely love the look it gives, and although there are a lot of seams, they aren't that obvious-- so even though it's not completely accurate, it was good enough for me. happy

No offense to anyone else here because there have been lots of awesome looking dresses, but your (Caitlin) underdress is the best I've seen so far. Too bad the pattern isn't around...

Thanks. happy It actually shouldn't be too hard to modify any generic princess-seamed dress into the rainbow underdress-- I bet there are several good patterns out right now. (You could probably even give the old standby, Simplicity 9891, a try.) Basically, you just add fabric to the CF panel, so it goes up to your neck, and trim away fabric from the remaining pieces, so you have the line you want. If you make a muslin, then trim and add as necessary, you can then use the muslin pieces as your pattern pieces. happy

I like the princess-seamed dresses because of the line they give-- nice and smooth up top, and very full and flared at the bottom. Their major drawback is that you have a lot of seams going down the dress.

I dyed the chiffon for my niece's dress today. Since I'm working on a pretty small scale (she's 4) it was pretty easy. Now to try and assemble it. happy

FERD, I'm going to try your suggestion about making the padded necklace version with some white iridescent lame.
Her birthday is coming up, but I'm making it for her just because she really wants it. I'm always up for fueling her SW obsession! wink

*cautiously pokes head into thread and looks around* Hello all....I'm glad I finally found this one....now, I know that others have already mentioned this question, but since that's a *lot* of pages to search back through....I'll still keep doin' it, though wink - well, I'm just hoping to get some clarification....on the type of shoes that are to be worn with the Naboo rainbow gown! Is it true that they're silver-ish pumps, with an inch, maybe an inch and a half heel....or.... (off the top of my head I don't even know what 'mules' are, I'm ashamed to admit) Definitely this info will come in handy if I'm to go shoe-shopping this weekend....

Hey, at least I was planning to get a pair of heels relatively soon anyway, so the timing on this one is rather nice. happy And, of course - tah muchly, guys! grin

Dawn, "mules" are basically backless sandals - just the slip-on kind, kinda like slippers. grin There's lots of shoes out there in the "mule" style. And, maybe I'm crazy, but Padme's shoes in that scene and with this dress have always looked silvery to me. So, if you can find a pair of silver mules then you're set. happy

With my costume, I went to Shoe Sensation, and found a pair of dyeable shoes that were a mule style. What was good about these is that they had a small strap on the ankle. What's good about dyables is that you can get them dyed any color. I know that Ferd, with her little cousin's Senate gown, dyed the shoes herself, so you could ask her on how that's done. Dyebables, however, run a little much. I paid $50 for mine. But, Payless had a WONDERFUL pair of white mules for 5.99 when I went looking for shoes, which was in May. The only problem with these is that they are a leather finish. They also came in a pale pink, if you wanted to go that way. I got a pair for taking my pictures so not to mess up my dyables. $5.99 is a wonderful price. I'm pretty sure that the Payless website still carries them!

Hey, you guys - thanks so much for all the info, already! I actually did a quick bit of shoe-browsing today....apparently it had quite slipped my mind just how insane the mall would be on a Saturday, though, and with the crowds and everything....well....and especially given as how I wasn't *totally* sure what to be looking for, and thus thought I should be getting a little more info and facts first....I only ever did end up just looking. However, I know that we do have a couple o' Payless shoe stores here....so, yeah, all this helps a great deal - thanks oodles again, for sure! grin Quick question though....the Payless website, you say....so they would have pics of the 'mule' style shoes in question? Any particular pic or part of the page that it's on, so that when I can have a quick boo at the site tomorrow, I can then print off the pic and take it to the store and say....okay....that's what I want! grin

See, now, my main thought on the matter there is that taking a pic in of the style I want will make it that much easier than if I went in and vaguely tried to explain the sort of "sense" or style that I want....and I've done *that* before, so yeah....aggravating is definitely one word for it. Not necessarily the first word that leaps to mind, but you get the idea. wink

Admittedly I've never dyed shoes myself, but hey....right now I'm just focussing on *getting* the shoe, and I already figure - that anything other than a *black* will obviously be (relatively) easy to dye....like a white or even a tan, for instance, like you guys are saying - for sure that should work much better. And....the heels on these ones, they're good, right? An inch, inch and a half or thereabouts....is there that big a difference between the two heel sizes, or does the 'mule' style typically just come with the one?

....and the wonderfully, if somewhat weirdly, ironic thing about all this shoe talk and lookin' around....is that I actually twisted or sprained my ankle today....took a nasty twisting tumble in the park, slipped in the grass or a little hollow divot or whatever, and down I went. Crikey, I'm such a complete klutz. wink Methinks that park really has it out for me....I broke my wrist there some years back....gosh, I wonder if all this is a *sign*.... grin Hrmph. Well, irregardless, I'm sure it'll be loads better tomorrow, 'cause either way - I darn well *need* to do this shoe shopping....or it'll be driving me absolutely nuts all week at work, and I won't be able to concentrate. Argh. happy

I was just thinking of a random helpful hint for those who are making the necklace for this dress that I've been meaning to post for a while, and have just kinda forgot to post. For the sodering part, if you go to Dee's craft store's stained glass section, they have a large selection of fake sodering in all sorts of colors. I used a kinda dark gold for mine, and it turned out great! It works really well, because, when I looked for slick paint, no one knew what I was talking about. Which is strange... but, just for anyone who can't find the slick paint, the fake sodering is about $2.99 for 2 fl. oz.

If you do print something off and take it in to the store, try to have the lot # of the particular shoe you want with you. The number might vary from the website to the store inventory, but it will make it easier on the employees when looking it up.
