To any New Yorkers here who have played the game, how accurate is the layout of the city?

The game is very very tight. I find it highly addictive and have had the hardest time putting it down. Just swinging over the vast skyline of Manhattan doing the usual Spidey things is worth the game alone. Hell, diving safely off the Empire State Building without becoming street pasta is a total gas. grin Even doing the free-roaming pizza deliveries/do-good/rescuing/crime busting/challenge missions give this game near unlimited GTA-style replayability.

The graphics aren't the best, yeah -- having game-engine-rendered cutscenes where the models mouths don't move is a bit dissapointing in this day and age -- but ultimately, the game's fun factor more than makes up for it (with the exception of the utterly frustrating mission on Liberty Island). Truly, I haven't loved a game this much since Vice City.

I've already beaten it. In the end you can just go swinging around the city doing what ever you want.
If anyone has'nt faught Mysterio I advise you not to be to frightened when his three health bars come up.

Heh yeah that freaked me out too at first too. I thought "oh crap I gotta beat him THREE times???"

I'm at the train right now fighting Doc Oc for the second time and I can't seem to beat him. I manage to pin one of his tentacles then the other one manages to knock me off the train. By the time I catch up to him again both tentacles are free (the other two keep him attached to the train) and I gotta do it all over again. sad

Don't anticipate the spidey-sense. Wait for the light above the head to come up and then dodge and web. Do this four times for the tenticles and then pound him.

Any comments about the differences in the 3 versions?

GC vs. XBox vs. PS2?

Wow! The free-roaming sounds cool. I just hope theres enough variety to keep me interested in the free roaming and catching criminals. How are the missions themselves? What bosses do you get to fight? So far in this thread i see Doc Ock and Mysterio. Rather looking forward to fighting Doc Ock! I don't feel he's ever been done right in a game, i hope he is this time. He better swing those tentacles around like crazy, and there better be good moves to dodge the tentacles with.

well, I'm not a New Yorker but Manhattan is pretty accurate. However, the Flatiron building does say Daily Bugle on it, and there is the OSCORP building in the financial district. Other than that, everything is there, down to ground zero (it's represented by two sets of spotlights). Oh, and only the 59th street bridge is present (you're restricted only to Manhattan and Roosevelt island).

Is it really Vice City spiderman? Cause honestly that sounds cool as heck to be. Is it slated for a PC release?

It's out on PC, but it's nothing like the console version. PS2, XBOX and GC all allow you to free-roam around Manhattan, helping people and earning hero points (there are also skyscraper points and challenges to collect/complete). The missions intertwine with you roaming around helping people. You don't just appear at a location for a mission, you've got to travel there. It's a lot of fun.

Yes, its free roaming, i know. But what villains are there?? What about the missions themselves?

Hah. I couldn't believe the "final fight" with Mysterio, with the 3 health bars going up. What a trip that was. The late, unlamented Mysterio will always be a loser, no matter which Spidey continuity you refer to.

Now I'm gonna fight Doc Ock on top of the train. So you have to manage to pin all his arms with webbing so you can properly pound him? If there's one thing I haven't gotten any good at is pulling off webbing tricks or combos, so that oughta be interesting...

Yeah, I'm not to good at that either. Luckily, if you're having trouble you can leave the train and visit your neighborhood Spidey store to pick up some health.

About the villains, the game features Mysterio, Shocker and Doc Ock. The missions with the former basically add more to the game than just Doc Ock. Black Cat also hangs around for some missions. You do other stuff, like take pictures for the Daily Bugle, deliver pizzas and hang out with the other characters.

Thanks man! I'll try that when I get home happy

Yeah, once you have all the swing upgrades and you can cruise through New York it's pretty freaking awesome.
