RE: Brand Spanking New York Yankees Thread
The Moose comes through again! And this time, he finally got run support. There were a lot of tight moments when his pitching kept the game at 1-1. Congratulations on winning your first playoff game since 2001. You deserve more playoff wins.
The Yankees scored six runs again, this time spread out over all 9 innings. Boone made up for his defense error. Karim Garcia holding Pudge at third on a single and later getting tagged out in a run-down was the difference in the game.
I am confident that this series will go no more than 6 games. Bernie Williams said he goes put and does the best he can and the team is playing as a unit, unified in the goal of winning the World Series. This does not bode well for the Marlins.
Let's Go Yankees!

Thanks for that on-the-spot report, Les. For those of you who've just tuned in, the Pinedale Shopping Mall has just been bombed with live turkeys. Film at eleven.

Yeah, Moose was brilliant. I'm so happy the rest of the guys finally came through for him. Excellent pitching performance.
Now we turn to Rocket's big night. This is it. For real. Roger Clemens ALL TIME LAST START. Wow. Let's hope he makes up for game seven, and goes out on top.

The knee-jerk reaction to last night's game would be to kick Jeff Weaver out of New York. However, he pitched well in the 11th inning and would not give in to Alex Gonzalez. Unfortunately, this resulted in a walk-off homerun. There were other factors in the Yankees loss. The Yankees squandered an opportunity in the 11th with runners at second and third with one out. There were just too many runners left on base. The Yankees had their opportunities to win and could not get the job done. Jeff Weaver should not shoulder all the blame for this loss.
I thought the umpires' calls were atrocious. The home plate umpire was too inconsistent and the first base umpire made bad calls that benefitted each team.
Alfonso Soriano needs to stop swinging for the fences on every pitch and continue to go with the pitch and drive some singles to right, just like he did earlier in the season. He also needs to take the pitches that are out of the strike zone.
Jason Giambi is still vulnerable to the high and outside fastball. He cannot easily take that pitch or hit it to left because his bat goes so fast throught the hitting zone, that even when he is late swinging, he still gets around and sends the ball to right-center field.
The bad effects from Game 4 will be gone with a victory tonight. Our hopes now lie with David Wells. This is yet another pivital game, but what game isn't in the World Series? Roger Clemens came back and pitched a great game after that forgetable 1st inning. Unfortunately, Pavano matched Clemens right from the start. Ruben Sierra comes through again off the bench to tie the game. Let's hope the Yankees bats will get going and they score runs in the one inning that opposing pitcher faulters in. All post-season, it seems there is one inning that the opposing pitcher struggles and then pitches brilliantly afterwards. The Yankees need to capitalize on the few scoring opportunities that they have and come back th the Bronx up 3-2 in the series.
Let's Go Yankees!
P.S. I hate the FOX announcers so much that I will endure static to listen to John Sterling and Charlie Steiner on WCBS radio than Joe Buck and John McGarver. I am able to get WCBS all the way up here in Buffalo, NY at night and I find Sterling and Steiner more insightful than Buck and McGarver.

Oh, I so agree about the announcers. And John Sterling is the man. I much rather listen to his insights over any other announcer out there. Unfortunately, I also like seeing the game rather than just listening to it. But turning the sound down and putting on the radio sounds like a good idea.
Yeah, as much as I'd love to immediately get on Jeff Weaver for last night, I can't. You're right, we had plenty of opportunities to score and just didn't get it done. Aaron Boone with the bases loaded, one out, anybody? And there were more.
We really, really, need to win tonight, though. The fact that the marlins do well against lefties makes me nervous though.

*sigh*
In ANY other ballpark, that ball Bernie hit would've tied the game.
And wtf happened to David Wells?? I know he can't help it, but damn! I'm sorry, but I think he just signed his walking papers. If he has to dodge out of a pivotal world series game after ONE inning due to a bad back, then there's no way Big George is gonna pick up his option for next year. I just don't see it. No way.
This sucks though. Now we'll probably have to face their ace saturday night. I feel ill.

Joe Buck and John McGarver
It is Tim McCarver.
And he happens to be basically the best in the business. He and Bob Costas would make the dream team for baseball announcers...Joe Morgan and Larry Miller are fabulous too.

Andy's pitching tonight right?
Hopefully we can hold them off tonight. Then Mussina and the Rocket can combine for a game seven win!

Goodbye Roger. Goodbye Zim. Goodbye Andy. Goodbye David. It was a good ride while it lasted. Thanks for the memories. Too bad you couldn't pull it out this year. It may be a while before we get another one.

RE: Brand Spanking New York Yankees Thread
Despite the very strong temptation to laugh at you guys, I won't. Sorry your boys lost, guys.
It makes me wonder, though, what would have happened if my beloved Sox had got in. I would've thought that whichever AL team got in would easily beat the Marlins. Guess not.....
And now, a question. If you haven't heard, there are rumors floating around that the Sox are gonna try and unload Manny over the winter. One of the few teams that could afford him is the Yanks. Would the Yankees trade for Manny? If so, who would they give the Red Sox? Discuss.

I do not ever want to hear Manny Ramirez becoming a Yankee.
I will drop the Yanks in a heart beat if that plick ends up on the team. I want him nowhere near my Yanks.
It was bad enough that the Rangers had to get Lindros...I almost pulled the trigger on dropping them too.
