I am a die hard Yankees fan...

And I hate the Red Sox even more so today than ever before.

They have ruined my Fantasy Baseball chances once again...taking another Closer and putting him in their crappy bullpen. angry

The trade deadline is tomorrow at 4:00PM Eastern. Both the Yankees and Red Sox have been active so far. George Steinbrenner is in Tampa meeting with both the "Tampa Mafia" (his advisors in Tampa) and his New York advisors. We shall see if the Yankees can address their problems. Karem Garcia so far looks like a good pick-up, but Armando Benitez is unfortunately proving me right after his outstanding opening night in Yankee Stadium. I believe Hideki Irabu started off the same way as Benitez in his first game aginst the Tigers and then quickly fell apart.

Dammit, the Sox just picked up another arm, from the Reds I think. Meanwhile we got some random people from Arizona and passed them Mondesi. Does anyone know more about these people? I only caught the tale end of the story on SportsCenter. They made it sound like Boston made the better deal though....*sigh*

Come on, Big George! Hustle! Deadline's approaching!!

Mondesi was traded to Arizona for outfielder David Dellucci, pitcher Bret Prinz, and catcher John Mark Sprowl. Dellucci will be with the Yankees, Prinz is going to Columbus and Sprowl is going to Class A Battle Creek. As for the pitcher the Red Sox got, he is Scott Williamson from Cincinnati and the Red Soz only gave up minor league pitcher Phil Dumatrait, a player to be named later, and cash. The Reds actually wanted Nick Johnson and Brandon Claussen plus cash from the Yankees (fat chance).

Oh, well, if that's the case then I'm glad they didn't deal with Cincinnati. Nick Johnson is off the table from what I've heard, and Claussen? Are they kidding? After that performance against the Mets, he's shown to be a young arm that we should hold on to. Especially with Boomer and Rocket on the way out.

I can't believe that the Reds would want our players like that...but settle for what they got from the BoSox.

Mondesi was traded because of his tirade the other night. When he was pitch-hit for.
But I like Bret Prinz...and Delucci will do a decent job for what he is here for.

And wasn't Claussen a college QB? From either Tennessee or LSU?

Claussen was a quarterback at Tenessee. The ring bell rung Tueesday and the Yankees answered it and came out swinging. The team is hitting well now and the pitching is great. Let's hope that Giambi continues his hot-streak and Matsui continues his great hitting (OOOHHH Godzilla!). Let's hope the pitching continues to be great. The real test will be this weekend against the Athletics and their great pitching.

Jeff Suppan, one of the NL's best pitchers during the last month for Pittsburgh, returned to the AL on Thursday as the Boston Red Sox added a reliable starter for their stretch drive

They Lost Ventura, but got Aaron Boone. Hmmmm.

The New York Yankees added an All-Star third baseman and yet another reliever, getting Aaron Boone and left-hander Gabe White on Thursday in a pair of trades with the payroll-slashing Cincinnati Reds.

The Yankees gave up left-hander Brandon Claussen -- their top pitching prospect -- another minor leaguer and cash for Boone, who was traded three days after his father was fired as manager.

New York then turned around and traded third baseman Robin Ventura to Los Angeles for two minor leaguers, clearing the way for Boone to settle in at third.

A few minutes later, the Yankees got White for a player to be agreed upon. All the deals were announced in the final half-hour before the non-waiver trading deadline.

I'm sorry, but getting rid of Claussen seemed like a stupid move. Who're we gonna put on the mound next year when Rocket and Wells leave town?

Grrr...Brian Cashman.....!!

Losing Ventura *hurts* though. I liked him. He was a good guy. sad

Don't worry, I'm sure Cashman will throw more money at the problem. Considering how far over the luxury tax line the Yanks are, I think they pretty much said screw it.
As for the Sox getting talent for less than the Yankees, well, think about it. How many teams are there in the majors? How many of them are sick of the Yanks buying a pennant every year? If you can't fight Steingrabber with your wallet, you find other ways to fight the evil empire, even if it means dealing for less against a rival team.

Brandon Clausen was not the quarterback at Tenesse, Casey Claussen is currently their quarterback. Sorry about the mix-up. I agree it is difficult to give up Claussen, but hopefully this will work out just like sending Eric Milton to Minnesota for Chuck Knoblock.

The hand-writting is on the wall for Drew Henson. Ventura was brought in to close the gap between Scott Brosius leaving and Henson taking over third base. Now, Aaron Boone is 5 years younger than Ventura and has two years left on his contract. Get used to Columbus, Drew, your going to be there for awhile. He really did not impress me when Columbus came to Buffalo in June.

Dave Dellucci was great in right-field. He robbed an Angel of a hit and scored the first Yankee run. The YES network gave the play by Jason Giambi going into the hole and just getting the out at first as their "Play of the Game", but I think Delucci's play in right deserved it. I believe he was the YES network's Player of the Game.

Look out, Boston and the rest of the American League.

*WARNING* Jeff Weaver is scheduled to pitch Saturday against Barry Zito. Will we get the Jeff Weaver on Sunday night in Fenway? I hope so.

I agree about Dave Dellucci. He really impressed me last night. Played hard. And I know it's only one game, but already, he doesn't strike me as a selfish player like Mondesi was. (I mean the guy had a great arm, and helped us a bit, blah, blah, blah, but we knew even getting him from Toronto, that he'd had his issues in the past).

And yeah, Jeff Weaver is *such* a wild card. You just never know which pitcher is gonna show up. Maybe the fact that he survived the trading deadline, and that we're obviously going to hang onto him for awhile, will give him the confidence to pitch better and on a more consistant basis.

I look forward to Mussina tonight, though. He's my favorite pitcher.

And, I swear, my heart is still breaking over Robin Ventura. I'm taking this even harder than I thought I would. sad
