I think everyone is seriously underating this Yankee team. Get the comparisons to our past dynasty out of your head. The 98-2001 run was outstanding. Once in a lifetime team chemistry, a solid core of talent. 1998 is over. Done. (I miss it too!). I mean, I think that's part of the problem. We as yankee fans have been spoiled over a terrific winning span, so every other line up pales in comparison.

Look at our team objectively: we look pretty damn good! Sure, our starting five isn't as strong, but offensively we've got serious *pop*. The bullpen was rounded out nicely this winter, and we should definitely be stronger than last year in that regard. (And hey, Donnie Baseball! That could give some of the guys some drive! His good attitude will be contagious!)

So there you have it. Boston will be a menace, that's for sure, but I'm not reading to concede the pennant to them yet.

Boston couldn't win the pennant if you gave it to them. Sure they have some good pitchers, but they will bow to the pressure from the Boston fanantics like every other star does. Wait till they have their first three game losing streak. Everyone will be singing gloom and doom. Watch them gloat in April through June as they will be in first place. Watch them cry in August and September as the sink out of the division lead. And if they play another team other the Oakland in the first round, and get down 0-2, watch them on the golf course.

My prediction:
World Series
Yankees 4 Cubs 2

It may be Houston instead of Cubs, but there is no doubt who will be there on the American League side. Go Yankees!

John Sterling was on a Buffalo Sports-talk station last night talking about the Yankees. Here is the jist of the interview:

He is very optimistic about the Yankees this year, despite the doomsayers out there.
Sterling figures that Jon Lieber or Jose Contreras will need to pitch well for the Yankees. Mel Stottlemyre says that there is no reason for both pitchers to do well. Mel also looks forward to a good year from Steve Karsay. Sterling also said the bullpen looks stronger this year.
John Sterling then focused his attention on the batting order. On paper, it looks like the Bronx Bombers will be back, with Lofton leading off, followed by Jeter and Giambi. Sheffield would bat 4th and protect Giambi. Bernie, Soriano, Posada, Matsui and whoeverf is at 3rd base would round out the order.
Joe Torre would decide in Spring Training who would start at 3rd base. Enrique Wilson and Steve Lamb are the top candidates for the job.
John Sterling concludes the interview by squashing the Alfonso Soriano trade rumor of him going to St. Louis for Albert Pujols. It won't happen because there would be two holes in the infield to fill. He praised Pujols for his hitting skills.

Only one more week until pitchers and catchers report to Tampa.
