Star Wars: The SWC Galactic Senate Game: Total Destruction

The Galactic Alliance has a history of defying the odds. From its modest origins in the back rooms of wayward senators’ apartments, dim alleyways, and cantinas in the oddest corners of the galaxy, to its stunning victory against the treacherous Empire, to its recreation of a government to rival the scope and splendor of the Old Republic, the Galactic Alliance has a rich history of greatness.

But nothing lasts forever. A new force has entered the galaxy, and they’re ready to tear it apart. They are the Yuuzhan Vong, warriors dedicated to the pursuit of pain and death, warmongers of horrific proportion.

The planet Artorias was first to fall. Broken beneath the strain of a bloody Vong offensive, coupled with infiltration by Vong agents, using Ooglith cloakers to appear as normal Artorian citizens, the entire population was conquered, killed, or enslaved. Despite the efforts of noble Jedi Knights and the small planetary militia, Artorias didn’t stand a chance, and never saw it coming.

It didn’t end there. Duro was next to fall, with the bloodthirsty Vong using Dovin Basals to pull its famed floating cities down to the surface, obliterating the entire planet. Innocent civilians were murdered, entire populations enslaved, and the Jedi declared the mortal enemies of the Vong.

The galaxy is in peril. Only the Senate can decide what to do next.





Welcome to the SWC Galactic Senate Game. Post two will contain the Constitution of the Senate. Post three will contain the modifications for the Imperial Senate. If you have questions about the game, please read through the constitution, or contact the forum moderators: Sinrebirth and Qui-Gon_Reborn. This first post will be a placeholder to keep the roster of the game. It will be edited in the future to show the updated roster (probably monthly) along with the current Chief of State, Vice Chief of State and Speaker of the House.

Please, be sure to familiarize yourself with all three of the first posts. This will help you tremendously as the game continues.

Let the politics begin!! Take advantage of the first 10 days of the thread to make your political positions known and do some in-game (and within the rules) socializing so we can have a better idea of how the game will unfold.

Constitution of the SWC Galactic Senate Game



Rule 1: Eligibility to participate.

This game is open to all members of the Jedi Council Forums. Players may join and leave at any time. To join the game, a player needs only add themselves to the official game roster, and indicate on that roster which planet they wish to represent. A player may leave the game by removing themselves from the roster. A player may be removed from the game for violating the ToS or the forum rules at the discretion of the forum moderators, Sinrebirth and Qui-Gon_Reborn. A player may also be removed from the game by the Vice Chief of State (see rule 2, Officers below) after the player has been inactive for a period of 14 consecutive days without giving prior notice of an absence.

Rule 2: Officers

There shall be three official officers of this game. The Chief of State, the Vice Chief of State, and the Speaker of the House.

The job of the Chief of State is to manage the game. The CoS will introduce scenarios that fit into the timeline, report how bills that passed/failed/were deliberated/etc affect the galaxy as a whole, recognize or deny motions, and attempt to keep the game fun for all members. The CoS will receive red-only VIPship and title for the month(s) they are elected.

The job of the Vice Chief of State is to care for the records of the game. The VCoS will be the official record keeper of the Roster, and should post it in thread at least once every three days. The VCoS will also be charged with recording the results of all motions and votes in the game. The VCoS is also charged with running the election of Chief of State in the following month, unless a conflict of interest is present (see Rule 3: Elections, below) In the event of an absence of the Chief of State, the VCoS will act as Chief of State. This will occur if the Supreme Chancellor announces he will be away for a set period of time, or if the Chief of State is inactive for a period of at least five days without notice. In the latter case, the VCoS is also obligated to PM the forum mods and notify them of the absence of the Chief of State.

The job of the Speaker of the House is to facilitate communication. The SoH will be responsible for PMing all senators one week, and two days prior to the election of a new Chief of State, as well as PMing all senators for topics of great interest, as requested and designated by the Chief of State.

No member may hold any single office for more than two consecutive months, and may not hold any office for more than three consecutive months.

No other official offices exist in this game, although the Chief of State may create unofficial offices (head of xyz committee, head of xyz political party, etc) to facilitate the scenarios being discussed.

Rule 3: Elections

Elections of the offices of this game shall be done during a four-day process, beginning on the first of each month.

The first day of elections is “nomination day”, and will occur on the first of the month starting at 12:01 a.m. board time. On this day, any member of the game may nominate any other member of the game for the office of Chief of State. Each member of the game may only nominate one other person.

The second day of elections is “acceptance, platform, and questions day”, and will occur on the second day of the month starting at 12:01 a.m. board time. On this day, any member who received at least two nominations for the office of Chief of State shall do one of two things: post their declination of nomination, or post their acceptance of nomination (thus becoming a candidate) and a platform of what to expect from them if elected Chief of State. Also on this day, all members of the thread may post up to three questions for the candidates (questions may be specific to a candidate or generic to all candidates). Candidates should refrain from answering questions this day. During the day, the Vice Chief of State should post the candidates who have accepted, declined, and are pending to better keep the game members informed.

The third day of elections is “answers day”, and will occur on the third day of the month starting at 12:01 a.m. board time. On this day, all questions that were asked the previous day will be answered by candidates. No other official business will take place this day.

The fourth day of elections is “voting day”, and will occur on the fourth day of the month starting at 12:01 a.m. board time. On this day, all members should send a PM to the Vice Chief indicating their vote for Chief of State. Members are allowed to vote for themselves, and all members get a vote. If the Vice Chief is a candidate for Chief of State, the Speaker of the House will handle this duty. If both are candidates, the members shall accept a volunteer from the other members to take on this duty

The following day, the Vice Chief will announce the winner of the election. This will be done both in an in-thread post and via PM to the forum moderators. In the case of a tie, the forum moderators will break the tie. Once the result has been posted, the new Chief of State will appoint his Vice Chief and Speaker of the House and will begin with the scenarios for the month, including a “State of the Republic” address.

Rule 4: Timeline and Canon Debates in this game

The timeline for this game (i.e. which era it takes place in) will be decided by the first elected Chief of State. All other Chiefs of State will live in that timeline and will have to live in a Republic that was impacted by the previous Chiefs of State, Senate votes, and repercussions that were made in-game.

The only materials considered 100% canon for this game are the six films. All EU, novelizations, etc are not considered canon, but neither are they considered non-canon. Something is not true simply because the EU said, but some things may still be true, depending on how the members of the game wish to use it.

Rule 5: Playing the Game

All members of this game must represent a planet. Each planet may be represented by only one player. Planets are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. You may use any planet from the Star Wars universe, or you may make up your own planet. This gives the game an unlimited number of planets to use.

The basis of the game is what happens on the Senate Floor. Thus, the game revolves around debating ideas, voting on bills, and finding solutions. The heart of the game is in voting.

To introduce a bill to be voted upon, a member should formally announce “I move that we adopt” … and then follow that with the bill, movement, action, etc to be taken. If another member of the game feels that this deserves to be voted upon, that member should second the bill. Once a bill has been seconded, it must be recognized by the Chief of State before voting on it can begin. Any member can make a motion or second a motion, with the exception of the Chief of State.

Once a vote has been recognized, it shall be voted on for a period of 24 hours. The bill will pass if a simply majority of those voting yes or no (or yay or nay or whatever variation is used) vote “yes”. The bill will fail if the majority is not reached. The Chief of State may veto any passed bill that is passed by less than a 2/3rds majority, but the Senate may overrule that veto with a 2/3rds majority vote.

All introduced bills should be in response to the actions, inactions, situations, etc as presented by the Chief of State for consideration by the Senate. It is recommended that Senators talk with other Senators to find consensus before advancing with a bill, but it is not required.

The passage (or non-passage) or bills, motions, etc will impact the game. The Chief of State will update you on the progress and events in the Republic as a response to the actions of the Senate. So, the way you vote on items will impact the game, so keep that in mind.

Rule 6: Meta-Motions

Meta-Motions are those motions which deal with the running of the game. These would include constitutional changes, removal of officers, and other such cases. These are strictly forbidden to be done without the permission of the forum moderators.

Rule 7: Socializing

Chatter and socializing in-thread is allowed, provided it is on-topic, “in-character”, and at least somewhat game related. Hi/bye and socializing posts that do not deal with the game in any way are considered spamming and off-topic, and will be dealt with accordingly.

Rule 8: Socks

The use of socks (alternative accounts) to play this game to allow yourself multiple entries in the game is prohibited. Anyone caught doing so may be barred from the game completely and/or banned.

Rule 9: Carryover of this game into other SWC threads

Events, titles, political parties, etc. are confined to this game only. Playing this game in any other thread (including, but not limited to, the Cloud City Cantina and the New Jedi Trials) is forbidden, and will be considered off-topic and spam. Likewise, carrying over ranks and conversations from other threads (including the New Jedi Trials) is forbidden, and will be considered off-topic and spam.

Rule 10: In-Thread Problems

Any problems that arise in-thread (including members creating problems by proposing bills that have nothing to do with the scenario or otherwise detracting from the scenario put forth by the Supreme Chancellor) should be reported to the forum moderators.

If there is a serious problem (flaming, profanity, etc), please contact any moderator online to help with the problem.

Rule 11: Duration

This game will last for a minimum of four months. At the end of four months, the forum moderators reserve the right to lock the thread and put the game on hiatus for a minimum of one month. However, if the game is successful, lacking of problems, and adding to the community, the forum moderators reserve the right to extend the length of the game by two months, and may choose to extend or end the game each two months thereafter.

Rule 12: Amendments

Amendments to this constitution shall be done only under supervision and permission of the forum moderators. Suggested amendments will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and a system to implement them will be decided on by the forum moderators.

Note: Some amendments have been made already, but those include the new system for approval, and the fact that the Chief of State has already been picked to start the game.

The Rules

You are a Senator who must represent the will of your homeworld to the best of your ability. The fledgling Galactic Alliance still maintains a working relationship with the Imperial Remnant, and must work with that body in order to avoid yet another war. If you start to make them mad, an assassin droid with suspicious-looking, Imperial-like markings might make its way into your luxury apartment. Equally, when sacrificing your soul to please the Remnant, you will be making decisions that corrupt you -- become too corrupt, and you’ll die.

The Three Aspects

Your Corruption:

Every player will have 100 points to attach to any of these pieces to start. If you reach 100 points in any of these three aspects, you will be killed and removed from the game. The aim is to survive until the Senate saves the galaxy!

Dolling Out Points

The results of your votes upon your aspects will be decided by the Chancellor, after a vote. This is to prevent individuals trying to balance out things artificially – you must act as you would as an Imperial Senator.



Awards

Every time the term ends, the Chancellor will choose the three best players from that month, and they will be also be voted upon by the Senate. Prizes will be dolled out by the Moderators, for those who are have contributed the most, played the best, and impressed us all with their ability to escape with their skins intact.

I am trying to understand this game and I love it. I would like to represent the sovereign planet of Naboo in this game. I believe I am diplomatic, have the best interest of Naboo and its inhabitants in mind, both Gungan and the Naboo and am able to do what is best for the people I will represent. I am a peaceful person but also believe that sometimes a planet must defend itself against evil.

Like I said, I just now read this and want to get my spot in. Please correct me or advise me since I am new to these games. happy Thanks!

This strange looking man was the new Zabrak Senator of Iridonia. He was cunning in the ways of Democracy, and Strategy. As he took his seat he glared around the room letting all his enemy's know that he was the one doing the intimidating around here, and that he would be a thorn in there side.*



Question about the aspects. Home worlds support. Having more in home worlds support would be good wouldn't it? So what happens if you get to one hundred for that?

I am spending some time learning more about the people of Naboo, who I represent. As a Naboo human, I am determined to understand the history of not just the Naboo and any immigrants to our beautiful world, but also the Gungans who are natives and make up the majority of Naboo's population.

But for today, I must do things in another galaxy far, far way called the Milky Way on my vacation planet of Earth. (Why I take a vacation away from the beautiful planet of Naboo is quite beyond my capacity. tongue ). I am signing paperwork for my new home there which is in an area of Earth that is similar in part to Naboo. Yes, there is a lake nearby. grin

EDIT: Oh, and in my version of the EU, Chewie, Anakin Solo and especially Mara are not dead. Which might also affect Jacen Solo's decision to NOT become a Sith. So he might be alive as well. happy At least that is how I would like to see things. batting

Staring around at the unfamiliar faces of the senate, the young new senator felt nervousness rise in her as she noticed how much older and more experienced the other diplomats seemed. Stepping into one of the Senatorial pods, Corellia's new Senator took her seat. As she recollected all she the democratic and strategic skills she acquired in her lifetime, she glanced around the room, hoping not to find a future enemy among the crowd of politicians.

As the new "Corellian senator", I shall conduct research on my planet, because I know very little about my homeplanet... laugh

Yes, I realize I am old for a Naboo Senator. But I believe that my 33 years have given me the experience I need to represent the people of such a beautiful and independent planet.

Well thanks to both of you then. And I added it to my signature. Not feeling good so I am not sure how much I will be here today.

Is there going to be an official roster? I have to admit, I read the first posts but I think I am getting the flu so I need to reread them because my brain is not quite working today. I hope that does not affect my points. I mean I have only had the flu one other time in my life.
