Valin gulped. “I stole a speeder and crashed into the Chancellor’s speeder.”

Dorme’s face was quickly going from red to purple. “VALIN HALCYON, YOU ARE IN SO MUCH TROUBLE!!!!”

“Please, don’t blame the boy,” Palpatine said. “He’s a curious lad, and I would have probably done the same ting in his place.”

Padme smiled. “Thank you for keeping him here, Chancellor.” She turned to Valin. “Your father is going to here about this when he gets back,” she hissed.

Valin gulped. He was soooooo dead.

*snorts and cleans of her computer screen* Give me a warning next time NYC! ^_^

LoL! That's classic. I don't think even I was that stupid at 10... crashing a landspeeder...

This didn't really come out the way I wanted, so please tell me what you think.

Dorme and Padme hadn’t punished him yet. They couldn’t think of anything good enough. Taking away his toys didn’t work, because he kept bugging them about being bored. They had already stopped feeding him dessert after his sugar high. There was only one thing they could do.

Make sure it didn’t happen again.

“But I don’t want to take him with us!” Padme wined.

“We’ve gone over this, Padme. I don’t want him to come with us either, but we can’t leave him alone! We’re all lucky that the Chancellor thought it was funny.”

Padme sighed. “I know.”

“Where are we going?” Valin asked.

“To the salon,” Dorme said.

Valin started choking over his eggs (they had taken the cereal away). “What?”

“The salon.”

“No, I heard you, but why?”

“All of my former handmaidens are coming, and we’re going to do girl stuff,” Padme said.

“What about Dorme?”

“She’s friends with us, Valin. She’s coming, too.”

“So we’re going to the salon?”

“Yep.”

Valin pushed his eggs away. “I’m full.”

It wasn’t hard to figure out who the other handmaidens were. Sabe, Yane, Sache, Rabe, and Eirtae were all standing in a group, and they started squealing when they saw Padme and Dorme. The seven women all started hugging and talking excitedly.

“Padme, who’s this?” Sabe asked after they had calmed down.

“This is Valin, Neeja Halcyon’s son. I’m babysitting while Neeja and Anakin are on a mission.”

One of the women (it was hard to tell which; they all looked alike) crouched down in front of him. “Hi, cutie,” she said. “I’m Yane, an old friend of Padme’s.”

Valin couldn’t believe this. Padme and Dorme treated him like a kid, but even they had never done this. He glanced at Padme, but she had a warning look on her face, so he decided to be polite. “I’m Valin.”

“A Jedi,” Eirtae giggled. “Vally, can you lift something?”

Dorme shook her head. “No, but he can convince you that he did!” The former handmaidens laughed.

Sache put her arms around Valin. “Come on, sweetie, I’m sure we can find something for you to do while we get our hair done.”

That something turned out to be getting his hair done. He ended up sitting in the middle of a group of gossiping woman, all of whom seemed to want to coddle him and tell him how cute he was, and then say, “Oh, you’ll never believe what she did . . . Did you hear about her wedding? . . . I don’t know why they left . . . Can you believe what she did? . . . Do you remember that guy? . . . Oh, you have to hear this . . . I know! That’s terrible . . . I heard he left her! . . . Oh, my goodness . . .”

Valin turned his thoughts inward. There is no anger, there is only peace, hate leads to the Dark Side, and so does strangling former handmaidens . . .

“Oh, my gosh!” Rabe exclaimed. “Vally, you look so cute!”

He hadn’t let them cut his hair, using the excuse that his father wouldn’t approve. He didn’t have much hair to deal with, anyway, since Neeja thankfully didn’t believe in making his son wear a Padawan braid. That didn’t mean that they still couldn’t have something done to him.

Valin looked in the mirror that Dorme handed him. “Dear Force.” What had they done to his hair?

“I know, isn’t it gorgeous?” Eirtae asked.

“Ooo, I know, lets take him to the nail place and let him get a manicure!” Sache squealed.

“Oh, Vally, that would look adorable!” Sabe said, sighing happily.

Dear Force, I hate these women.

Seven manicures later (Valin had threatened them if they tried to go near him with polish), the eight of them went out to dinner. Valin was stuck in a fancy restaurant, listening to more gossip and several women tell him how cute he was.

I’ve got to find a way out of here.

Valin looked around. The only way that he was going to get away from them was by going to the refresher. That’s it!

Valin got up, and they all noticed, and wanted to know where he was going. “The refresher.” Dorme shot him a look of warning, which he ignored. She was the most normal of the women, but she had had a couple glasses of wine and a day with her best friends, so her edge was dulled.

“I’ll be right back,” Valin said, forcing a smile.

Yeah, right. I’ll be back as soon as Kessel reforms criminals and Tatooine gets flowing water.

It took them a while to notice that Valin had been gone for a long time. It was Yane who noticed. “Where’s Vally?” she asked.

Dorme, suddenly aware that their young charge wasn’t there, started cursing. “When I catch that kid . . .”

The handmaidens started panicking, but Padme had started to get used to Valin. “Let’s wait a minute before overreacting. He probably snuck off and went home. Let’s look there before we call the police.”

Sure enough, Valin was at home on the couch, watching holovision. Dorme almost blew up again. “VALIN, WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING?”

“Watching holovision, duh. What does it look like?”

“Now, calm down, everyone,” Rabe said. “We missed dinner out, so we’ll just have something here, Vally, come help me set the table, that’s a good boy.”

Great. I wouldn’t go back to them, so they came to me. At least at the restaurant, I didn’t have to set the table. Why can’t Tatooine have running water?
