Yes, I can, and did happy I just got a post finished. It's the second-to-last one.

Padme sighed. She swore, if that child tried anything else—

“Why are we here, anyway?” Valin asked.

—she would kill him. Or give him to Sola. Or both.

When Sola, her older sister, had called to say that she was coming with her daughters to visit, Padme had been relieved. She didn’t know how to handle Valin, and the incident with the Coruscant Security was the last straw. Well, she admitted that locking Val in the refresher hadn’t been the brightest of ideas, but still.

The sleek Nubian ship landed, and the normally calm senator bounced from foot to foot in excitement. She hadn’t seen Sola or her nieces since she married Anakin nearly a year ago.

The not-so-little girls ran down the boarding ramp, followed more slowly by their mother. “Aunt Padme!” Pooja cried, throwing herself into her aunt’s arms. “Hello darling,” Padme said, returning the embrace. She put one arm around Ryoo and pulled her into the embrace.

Padme stepped back for a minute and just looked at them. They had grown so much! Pooja was seven now, and Ryoo was ten. I wonder if she causes her mother much grief as Valin causes me, she thought, remembering that the Corellian boy was the same age as her niece.

“Padme, it’s good to see you,” Sola said warmly.

Padme threw her arms around her older sister. Sols laughed and return the embrace. “Who is this?” she asked, noticing Valin.

“Valin Halcyon. His father is on a mission with Anakin, so he’s staying with me.” Sola was one of the handful of people who knew about her marriage to Anakin. Even Obi-Wan, Anakin’s former master, didn’t know.

“Hello, Valin. I’m Sola, Padme’s sister.”

Valin gave her a small bow. “Does she give you as much trouble as she gives me?” he asked in a very adult voice.

Padme was socked, but Sola just laughed. “Oh, she used to give me plenty.” She motioned her daughters forward. “These are my daughters, Ryoo and Pooja. Girls, can you say hello to Valin?”

Pooja just giggled and waved, but Ryoo curtsied when Valin gave her a bow. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, my lady,” Valin said smoothly. He winked at Ryoo, which made her blush.

Oh Force, Padme groaned, he’s hitting on my niece!

She thought that Sola would be a moderating influence on Valin, but she was wrong. Valin spent most of his time with Ryoo, and while that kept him out of her way, she still didn’t like it. She sighed.

“What’s wrong? Sola asked.

“Why aren’t you upset that Valin obviously has a crush on Ryoo?”

Sola laughed. “Because they’re cute. And it won’t last—they live on opposite sides of the galaxy. Besides,” she continued, “they’re too little to do anything inappropriate.”

“You don’t know Valin,” Padme muttered.

“No, but I do know children. As mischievous as he is, the thought of so much as kissing her on the lips probably makes him sick.”

Padme sighed again, but Sola just hugged her. “He’s been stressing you out?” she asked softly.

“Beyond all reason. I have decided that I no longer want children.”

Her sister laughed. “He would respect and obey you more if he were your son. Don’t let his antics scare you off—you’ll love being a mother.

I suppose so,” Padme replied dubiously.

Ryoo sighed happily, staring up at her ceiling. She loved Valin halcyon. He was soooooo sweet . . . .

She was startled out of her thoughts by a knock on her door. “Come in!” she called.

Valin walked in, an grin on his face. “Are you ready for our dinner date, my lovely lady?” he asked.

Ryoo stood up and walked over to him. “Yes,” she said happily.

“Then come with me,” he said, extending his arm. She took it and let him lead her out the door.

“Are you sure we’re allowed to do this? Ryoo asked as Valin piloted the speeder away from the hanger.

“Sure we are. I mean, I’ve learned how to fly it. And your mother did give us permission, after all.

Yes, Ryoo thought, but I think she thought that we were joking.

After a few minutes, Valin pulled the speeder up to a restaurant and hopped out. He ran around to the other side and opened the door for Ryoo. She smiled and took his hand as he led her inside.

“Reservation for Jedi Man,” he said, blushing a little. He had gotten Nyche to make the reservations from Corellia, but this had been his punishment.

“Follow me, please,” the man said, looking oddly at the two children. An adult had made the reservation, though. That woman had been an adult, hadn’t she?

He led them over to a table for two, and within minutes they had placed their order. “So, are you paying for this? ‘Cause I didn’t bring any money,” Ryoo informed her date.

“Nah, my friend Nyche, the one who made the reservation, already took care of that. She wouldn’t tell me how, but with Nyche, is always has to do with really old stuff.”

Dorme was enjoying her evening. Her date was amusing, and she liked having a night off from Valin.

Wait . . . that kid kinda looks like him!

Dorme shook her head. She was seeing things, that was all. She was overworked and overstressed, and it was natural to imagine he followed her everywhere. Right?

But still, the boy was sitting with another girl of the same age without any adults, and that was a completely Valin thing to do. She took a closer look. It was Valin! The girl looked like Padme . . . Isn’t Ryoo about Valin’s age?

She got up and stalked over. That kid was in for it.

Valin was just taking another sip of his soda when he saw and angry woman headed his direction. No! Dorme’s not supposed to be here!

“Valin? What’s wrong?” Ryoo asked.

Valin took a deep breath. “You see that woman headed in our direction?”

“Yeah.”

“Well, she’s your aunt’s handmaiden.”

“So?”

“So we’re in for it.”

Sola was taking sip of wine when Dorme came barging into the kitchen, dragging Valin and Ryoo behind her. “Dorme, what’s going on?” Padme asked.

“I found these two at a restaurant, eating. They stole a speeder to get there,” the handmaiden replied angrily.

Vain met the stares of the two Naberrie women. “Well, you said we could!”

Sola groaned. I guess it wasn’t just a joke. Padme was right, this kid is trouble.

Padme smiled when the ship landed on the platform. She couldn’t wait to see Anakin . . . and hand Valin to his father.

The kid had been awful, especially since Dorme caught him and Ryoo. They had all kept Val inside and in sight for the rest of the time. Sola had already left for Naboo with her daughters.

Anakin was the first one down the boarding ramp. He ran over to Padme and picked her up, twirling her around. He set her down and kissed her passionately.

Padme saw Valin running over to his father. Nejaa picked his son up and laughed happily at something the boy had said.

After giving the newlyweds some time alone, Nejaa walked over to Padme. “Thank you so much for babysitting, Padme. I hope he wasn’t too much trouble.”

Wasn’t too much trouble? The kid was a disaster! “He was good,” she lied. She didn’t want to get into every incident he had caused, she just wanted to go home and spend some time with her husband.

Nejaa smiled and mussed Val’s hair. “Good.”

Padme looked over at her sleeping husband. They had had a very nice reunion after Nejaa and Valin had departed for Corellia. She was glad Valin was gone and her life could get back to normal.

She slipped a robe on and being careful not to wake Anakin, left the bedroom. She made her way to her office and turned on the light. She sat down at the desk and pulled out a piece of flimsi.

Reasons Not to Baby-sit a Jedi

1. They get very hyper on sugar
2. They need too many toys
3. They make a huge mess
4. They’re very loud
5. They drive speeders under age and crash into the supreme Chancellor
6. They run away when they’re bored
7. They don’t know how to eat at a banquet
8. They call Coruscant Security for fun
9. They fall in love with your niece
10. They’re children

Satisfied with her list, Padme smiled and made her way back to bed.

Great fic. I just finished Jedi Trials today (Yeah...I know it's been out for awhile already but I just got to finish it today) and Neeja Halcyon was one of the characters I really liked. And then I'm diffing here for fan fic and find yours!

Like I already said, great fic. It really was funny. My friend kept on staring at me because I kept on bursting out laughing.

The restuarant visit with Rooyo was classic and I loved how Dorme was the one who had to take charge. It was also interesting to see Padme have no clue about what to do with Valin. Usually she's so put-together, but give her a child to baby-sit and she fails miserably...

And Valin himself was an interesting character. Calling the police when he was locked in the refresher was also brilliant. I'd love to see more if you ever end up writing more about the characters.
