RE: Reasons Not to Babysit a Jedi (Clone Wars era, Padme babysits a Jedi child, humor) Completed 1/7
I haven't finished reading yet, but here's what I've gotten through so far.
In a final act of desperation, Padme said, “I have candy.”
That got through to Valin. He pumped his fist in the air. “Yes! Candy! You rock, Padme. Can we go have some now? Do you have chocolate? And ice cream? And cookies? I gotta have cookies. Maybe cereal. Yes, I want cereal for dinner. C’mon, Padme, hurry up!” he said tugging at her hand. “I’m starving!”
Yeah, that always works.
Padme knew that Neeja didn’t usually let Valin have that much junk food, but it seemed to cheer the boy up. Besides, he deserved it for being such a good sport about being stuck with her while his father was on a mission. It couldn’t hurt, right?
Oh… it could hurt a lot. Kids + candy + LOTS of candy = crazy, hyper child.
Wrong.
Two hours later, Padme figured out exactly why Neeja didn’t let Valin have that much junk food. It made him so hyper he was nearly bouncing off the walls. “This was not a good idea,” Padme said, groaning.
Yep. Hyper children aren’t good.
“Okay, mister, we’re calling Mom.”
Yes! Greatest threat in the world.
Padme knew that it wasn’t always the best idea to let kids loose in a toy store, but how much could a ten-year-old boy want?
:: sigh :: She’s just asking for it, isn’t she?
Hot Wheels
Nit-pick – I’d leave out the earth-isms. It’s fun to come up with creative names for things that allude to stuff that we have. Like I renamed Silly String to Psycho String. It gives you the same idea but it’s still in the Star Wars realm.
Her first problem was that she had no idea how to hook up the video game console, and neither did Valin.
Padme I can understand… but a ten year old boy not able to hook up a video game system? I don’t believe it!

RE: Reasons Not to Babysit a Jedi (Clone Wars era, Padme babysits a Jedi child, humor) Completed 1/7
Why would kids risk getting their parents mad at them?
Heh. That’s funny. Then again, he is ten.
:: sigh :: Leaving him alone? Don’t they realize this can’t result in anything good happening? Padme has a LOT to learn.
Valin waited for and hour after they left before sneaking out of the apartment and down to the docking bay. He searched for a while before he found where the Nubian representatives kept their ships. He chose a bright blue speeder and hopped in. Dorme said that kids drove speeders here, right?
Oh Force! Bad Valin!!!
“Please, don’t blame the boy,” Palpatine said. “He’s a curious lad, and I would have probably done the same ting in his place.”
Run away! Run away! This can only lead to trouble! Just like Anakin! Geez. I sound like a newbie with all of those exclamation points.
We’re all lucky that the Chancellor thought it was funny.
Are not. He just wants to turn the boy into his evil minion!
“All of my former handmaidens are coming, and we’re going to do girl stuff,” Padme said.
I think that’s punishment enough. Poor boy.
That something turned out to be getting his hair done.
I knew that was coming.
Valin turned his thoughts inward.
There is no anger, there is only peace, hate leads to the Dark Side, and so does strangling former handmaidens . . .
Hehe! Great line. If he hangs around them much longer and Senator Palpatine he might just turn.
Dear Force, I hate these women.
Heh. Yep. Punishment enough.
“Exactly. A sabacc face.”
Or a politician’s face.
Valin didn’t actually know what the word harpies meant, but his father said it when his mother’s sisters left, so he figured that the handmaidens were harpies, too.
Heh. I don’t think that Valin acted
too
badly at the dinner. It could have been much worse. At least he tried to behave.
Unfortunately, they had locked him in the refresher.
Now, that’s just mean. Bad babysitters!
I wonder if it’s against the law to lock a kid up in a refresher and leave? Valin wondered. Then he got and idea. He could find out!
Again, not good!
It took several hours to convince the proper authorities that they hadn’t known that they weren’t allowed to lock Valin in the refresher, and that they were very sorry and the incident wouldn’t be repeated.
Ignorance of the law is no excuse, according to my business law course. I guess I did learn something. They should just use their clout to get out of it.
Valin gulped. “April Fools?”
“It’s July.”
Again with the earth-isms! They don’t have the same months as we do.
Pooja just giggled and waved, but Ryoo curtsied when Valin gave her a bow. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, my lady,” Valin said smoothly. He winked at Ryoo, which made her blush.
Oh Force, Padme groaned, he’s hitting on my niece!
Haha. That’s great.
Sola laughed. “Because they’re cute. And it won’t last—they live on opposite sides of the galaxy. Besides,” she continued, “they’re too little to do anything inappropriate.”
“You don’t know Valin,” Padme muttered.
“No, but I do know children. As mischievous as he is, the thought of so much as kissing her on the lips probably makes him sick.”
Yep. She knows kids.
“Beyond all reason. I have decided that I no longer want children.”
And she gets blessed with Force-sensitive twins. Haha.
“Are you sure we’re allowed to do this? Ryoo asked as Valin piloted the speeder away from the hanger.
Oh sith! Not again.
Anakin was the first one down the boarding ramp. He ran over to Padme and picked her up, twirling her around. He set her down and kissed her passionately.
Um… are they in public? It doesn’t sound like they’re trying to keep this to themselves very well.
“He was good,” she lied.
Wow, I’ve done that many times.
Great story. You've done a great job!

Alethia:
Great fic
Thanks!!!
I just finished Jedi Trials today (Yeah...I know it's been out for awhile already but I just got to finish it today) and Neeja Halcyon was one of the characters I really liked.
That was a good book, but I didn't like the way they protrayed Nejaa. And they got some facts wrong--he was a Corellian Jedi, so he was allowed to get married and he wasn't part of the Jedi Order
Like I already said, great fic. It really was funny. My friend kept on staring at me because I kept on bursting out laughing.
Thanks!!!
This was one of my first attempts at humor, and I wasn't sure how it had gone.
I'd love to see more if you ever end up writing more about the characters.
I'm glad you're interested
I might do something else with this when I get time
Jaya:
Yeah, that always works.
Lol
Oh… it could hurt a lot. Kids + candy + LOTS of candy = crazy, hyper child.
Oh boy do I know it.
Yes! Greatest threat in the world.
Yep

Makes you think she shouldn't have kids.

Hmm, I think I'll have to try it. Thanks for the suggestion

Lol YES.

He would make a pretty funny Sith.
Heh. I don’t think that Valin acted too badly at the dinner. It could have been much worse. At least he tried to behave.
Yeah, I was having a bit of DWB when I wrote that

They pretty much did.
And she gets blessed with Force-sensitive twins. Haha
Yeah, but she doesn't have to raise them.

Same.
Great story. You've done a great job!
Thanks!!!

Really? I, er, read it kind of quickly and sort of skimmed through a lot of it... I read it in German (which I hate doing) and I read it in different bookstores when I had a spare few minutes to read through a chapter or two (hence it took me a month to get through it). So I guess I ought to read it again, because it seems like I missed a lot...
And I'll keep an eye out for anything more you might write.

Thanks!!!
I don't post much in the Saga, mostly Beyond. The links are all in my bio.
Have you written anything?
