Descent Into Darkness: A Clone Wars Story

*This story possibly—no, definitely, contains spoilers. All who are intending to go spoiler-free until May 19th should take serious caution in reading. Now that that’s out of the way, here it is, my first fanfic.*



Chapter 1: Eerie Dreams


I was just standing there, helpless…glaring at the tattooed face of this mysterious warrior, seething with anger while trying to slow my heartbeat and heaving chest.

My loving, wise old master lay on the cold metal floor, dying, with a bloody gaping hole in his abdomen, merely feet from one end of the glowing red saber.

Hold your anger back, Obi-Wan. Hold it back.

Yoda’s words filled my mind as I looked into the yellow and red eyes, which smiled back at me with such pride. His red and black face beamed over his recent accomplishment.

If only this damned field would go down, I will teach this vile creature a new meaning of pain and suffering.

Attack to the right, first, with more ferocity than any blow I had ever delivered. Then, spin in order to perhaps gain an open look at the midsection of the horned demon.

I will mutilate this creature so viciously that…

WHOOSH!

The red beams collapsed upon themselves…quickly, get into your rythym, Kenobi…

Allow it, just soak yourself in anger…allow yourself to be consumed with bitter hatred for this creature, Obi-Wan…

Heh—looks like I’ve caught this hooded creature off guard…Keep beating him down, Obi-Wan… force him back towards the center opening.

CLASH! CLASH-CLASH!

...shift your stance, quick feet…allow the force to consume you…Faster! Faster! Bathe in the power of the Dark Side!...I will destroy your worthless soul, creature. I WILL BREAK YOU…

behind the back...whip it out front…back…front…right…

ah, you do have a weakness, you vile being…heh…right here!…

Hot metal spewed towards my face as the hilt split in half.

One word keeps running through my mind…KILL…


Parry, Parry. CLASH! CLASH-CLASH-CLASH!

I’ve never fought with such ferociousness. Here it was…my chance…locked sabers…

He stared into the red and yellow eyes. I’ve always been good with locked sabers. Always been. Always...Always...

"Obi-Wan. Master."

The words broke his slumber.



“Obi-Wan, you’ll have time to sleep when you’re dead.”

Obi-Wan looked up into the gleaming red and yellow eyes of his friend and former Padawan, who was hovering over his chair inside the Republic cruiser.

They were filled with hate and evil…just like…no, this couldn’t be happening.

The bearded Jedi Master leapt to his feet, rubbed his eyes, and refocused them on Anakin. He placed his right hand on the circular bottom of his hilt, and readied himself for battle.

“Obi-Wan, what’s wrong?”

Chapter 2: Disturbing News


Obi-Wan shook his head a few times, and ran his right hand through his smooth, but shorter hair.

“Sorry, Anakin. Bad dream.”

“I’m familiar with them, Obi-Wan. Didn’t mean to scare you, though.”

Obi-Wan laughed at this and softly punched his young friend in the shoulder.

“You could never scare me, Anakin.”

Obi-Wan watched as his young friend forced a smile and walked to the control room of their Republic Cruiser to speak with their pilot. They were headed back to Coruscant from a small campaign on Naboo, where they had disposed of menacing terrorists who were sympathetic with Dooku’s cause.

That thought…I just can’t get it out of my head…so vicious…so terrible…

He shook his head again. He had to stop worrying so much—Anakin had told him this many a time, and perhaps he should start listening to his friend.

He was the Chosen One, after all.

Obi-Wan walked towards the control room, and immediately noticed that the mood resembled that of a funeral. He spoke up, quietly:

“Any tracking signals, Captain Reelan?”

“No, sir. We have picked up something from Dantooine, though, Master Jedi. It seems as though Dooku himself has landed with his troops there. And…”

Obi-Wan watched as Anakin’s lip snarled and Captain Reelan fell quiet.

“What is it, Captain? Anakin?”

“Our troops were massacred, sir. Dooku took no prisoners. He filled a room with the decapitated heads of our soldiers and natives…then he sent footage of it to Coruscant for the media to feast on. And then he sent a copy to…”

Obi-Wan’s mouth gaped open, and face fell white. Captain Reelan continued:

“To Master Skywalker, sir. Most were his troops from the Rhen Var invasion. He somehow knew where we were and was able to make contact with Anakin’s holotransmitter.”


Obi-Wan turned to face his friend, who held three fingers to his mouth, as if he were thinking of something.

“Anakin. How could Dooku have contacted you, personally? Someone would have had to have given him the correct clearance code to send the footage to you!”

The young Jedi Knight turned, so now he stood face to face with his former master.

“I was thinking the same thing. Only the Jedi Council and certain Senators know my clearance codes.”

“CERTAIN SENATORS!?” Obi-Wan exploded into anger, and continued to rant.

“Anakin! If I may, what in the world you are thinking! You cannot trust any ‘certain Senator’ on Coruscant, now, son, it’s not like…”

Anakin closed his eyes and interrupted him, as he was prone to do, and spoke softly.

“Don’t speak to me like this, Obi-Wan. I am no longer your apprentice. And I need some rest.”

With that, Anakin turned and walked back towards the sleeping quarters.


Obi-Wan Kenobi stood behind Captain Reelan’s chair, embarrassed, stunned, and confused that his friend didn’t seem surprised that the commander of the Seperatists who happened to also be a Sith Lord had been able to make contact with his personal holotransmitter.

Blast. I was just looking forward to some rest at home.

So...Obiwan used the Dark Side to defeat Maul?

Perhaps knowing what the Dark Side can do...he's a "by the book" Jedi...

Can't wait for the next chapter!

Chapter 3: Arrival


“Captain, I’ll be resting if you need my assistance.”

Captain Reelan turned to face the bearded Jedi, and nodded.


Obi-Wan walked back to his quarters, took a seat on his pad, and closed his eyes to think.

What is going on? First I envision my own padawan as a Sith Lord, and now he is being contacted by Dooku, and thinks nothing of it! Yet I feel no disturbance in the Force…

He collapsed onto his back, rolled over on his side, and fell asleep once again.

This war is getting old.






“Master. Obi-Wan.”

Anakin again stood over his master, but this time, nothing about him seemed different.

“What is it with you these days? Always sleeping!”

Obi-Wan focused his eyes and saw Anakin walking towards the back of the ship, where the loading deck and ramp were located.

Hmmph, never can get enough sleep…

Obi-Wan struggled to his feet and ran his hand through his hair and beard, and then began wobbling behind his colleague.

The light stung his eyes as he stumbled down the ramp, but he could make out two familiar figures in the Coruscant light, standing in the Senate courtyard
.

He watched as his Padawan embraced the young Senator from Naboo, and nodded to Senator Organa, who began walking towards him. Obi-Wan stretched his hand out to greet his friend.

“Bail, how are things here?”

“Welcome back, Obi-Wan. I fear that I don’t have anything good to tell you. But Master Yoda wishes that you visit the temple immediately, and alone.”




Obi-Wan, still groggy, nodded gently, and walked up behind Anakin, placing his right hand on his friend’s firm shoulder. He nodded at Senator Amidala, who broke her adoring gaze at Anakin to smile at him.

“Senator Amidala, good to see you.-- Anakin, I’ve been summoned to the Council Room. I will meet you afterwards.”

He closed in to whisper in the Jedi’s ear.

“I don’t think there’s going to be any good news, son. We’ll probably be out of here by nightfall.”


As Obi-Wan turned to walk away, all he heard was a muffled sigh from his friend, who had begun to walk in the other direction with Senator Amidala.

Hmmm…When those two are together…they always act so strange…everything feels so…staged…

Obi-Wan cracked his neck to the side, stretched his arms, and began jogging up the stairs towards the elevator that led to the Jedi Temple.
