Regardless of who wins, is there any way Utley isn't the MVP? When was the last time someone from the losing side won it?

I knew it was a Yankee in the 1960 series against the Pirate, but had to look up the name.
Bobby Richardson was the only losing player to take the MVP.
And I'd love to play poker against Joe Girardi.

As thrilling as a game 7 would be to watch, I don't see it happening. It wasn't too surprising that the Phillies won game 5, because there's no way they wanted to see/let the Yankees clinch the title on their home field/Burnett on 3 days rest is going to work as well for the Yanks as C.C. on 3 days rest. Pedro/Pettiete is a good duel, so to speak, for tomorrow, and if comes down to the bullpens, I trust the Yankees over Philly. I say the Yankees clinch it tomorrow, and if they don't, game 7!

One interesting tidbit I heard today was that Pettitte has been pitching on five days' rest for the last month, so the transition to three will be interesting, especially after his revelation that he 'had nothing' in Game 3. Then again, Pedro is used to pitching once a week too, so he'll have to deal with a shorter break.

While we're at it, if you're going to quote Joe Benigno, why not include some of his theory on Bill Parcell's tenure with the Jets?

Oh, I could include his Jet tirades, but I just wanted to use his generic lines that could be used in any context. But you have to admit Tuna screwed up by keeping Mirer behind center for so long in 1999. Still a heckuva team builder, though. And as Joe put it, Parcells is Vito Corleone, Belichick is Michael and Mangini is Fredo.

Parcells was a great coach for the Jets. He re-stocked their cupboards and had them a quarter away from the Super Bowl in the 1998 season (and a quarter away from beating what turned out to be a repeating champion Broncos team). Injuries decimated the 1999 team, and they still finished 8-8.

Parcells did a great job rebuilding the Jets, but he was too slow in pulling the bench trigger on Rick Mirer in 1999. Granted, Ray Lucas lit up the scene when the Jets were practically done for the season, but perhaps he could've led a wild playoff push then. You have to understand Joe Benigno is the city's worst suffering Jet fan -don't tell him about 1969, that's 40 years ago.
Back to baseball though: At what point is Girardi tempted to unleash Rivera? Runner on in the 7th inning of a tight game? Start the 8th? Phillies better pound Pettitte, Hughes, Joba and Marte before the Hammer of God trots out to 'Enter Sandman.' Would like to see Utley break Reggie's dinger record, too.

I like the Phils chances of roughing up a 40 year old Petite on 3 days rest tonight. They had him in game 3 when they got 3 runs in the 2nd inning. However, they got complacent with Hamels pitching a no-hitter through 3 innings and for the early innings when it was looking like the Hamels of 2008 was pitching. The Phils let up on Petite in the 3rd inning because of this. He settled into a groove and by the time Hamels collapsed in the 4th and 5th, the Phils couldn't get to him again. They won't make this mistake again and will continue to pound on him and the Yankee relievers, as they did in game 5 (when they didn't sit on Burnett and the Yankee relievers with a 3-1 lead and continued to pound the Yankees for 5 more runs).
